Bring on 2017!

Happy New Year!! I can’t believe how fast 2016 flew by! I spent the last two and a half weeks with my family celebrating Christmas and New Years and traveling from Las Vegas to Arizona and back. I’m always sad to see my family go and wish we all lived closer together, but now that things have settled down, I have some new year goals that I need to dig into. Last year was the first time that I wrote down all of my goals for the new year and I did the same again this year. I loved looking back on what I set to achieve at the beginning of the year and see how much I accomplished by the end. 2016 was one of those years with many ups and downs along the way. I traveled a lot (Alaska, Hawaii, Portland, Seattle, Nashville, Long Island to name a few), my sister got married, I started my blog, and started a new decade of my life (the big 3-0!) For 2017 these are some of the goals I hope to accomplish!

1. Invest more time on my blog

Last year a few months into the year I decided I needed a hobby to keep me busy and get my creativeness flowing. Having moved out to Las Vegas for my husband’s job, I left my work, family and friends behind, so I knew I needed something for me. I contemplated blogging for a month and finally decided to take the plunge, and I couldn’t be happier that I did! I have met so many amazing girls throughout the whole process and really enjoy coming up with content to share with you guys. What started out as a trial has become something I really want to plunge into, so this year I plan on spending a lot of time getting my blog and social media accounts revamped and creating some great content for you all. Thank you for all of your support to this point, I appreciate all of the positive energy!

2. Workout and eat healthy regularly

I have always been pretty health conscious, trying to eat healthy and working out. The holidays threw that off a little bit (ok quite a bit!), so it’s time to get my butt back to the gym and eating healthy again. Things I like to do to stay healthy are eat lots of fruits and vegetables, green juices, and fish. I love going running, it helps to clear my mind, and doing intervals on the treadmill.

3. Be more mindful and maintain a clear mind

It’s so important to be healthy both physically and mentally; I have always had anxiety in my day to day life, some days more than others. I have tried many things to help curb my anxiety and have found a few things that have helped me most along the way. Some of those things beings meditation, essential oils, working out, breathing exercises and finding some sort of activity to really throw myself into, whether it be blogging, cooking, or just taking a walk to clear my mind. Sometimes we forget how powerful the mind can be, it just shows you how much control you actually have to create your own happiness.

4. Spend time with family and friends

Living on the opposite side of the country from pretty much all of our family and friends can be difficult at times, especially when you’re as close to your family as I am. In the last two years of living away I have to say I have seen everyone quite a bit, as I love to travel and am fortunate enough to be able to come and go as I please (face time helps too!) I definitely plan on taking as much time as I can visiting or just picking up the phone and calling a family member or friend, and letting them know how important they are to me!

5. Push myself to step outside the box

Let’s face it most humans are creatures of habit, as am I. We all tend to get into a routine and when we face change it’s hard to deal with; nobody really likes feeling out of sorts right? It’s ok to feel uncomfortable and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone makes you realize it’ll still all be alright. This year I plan on pushing myself to do things or take advantage of situations I normally wouldn’t because I’m afraid to or not used to it.

I can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store! What are some of the goals or resolutions that you have set for yourself this year? Try making a list like I did, it’s so fulfilling to look back at the end of the year and see how far you’ve come!

Malibu Travel Guide

Last week Mo and I decided to take a last minute road trip to LA, which I was super excited about! I had been telling him I wanted to start visiting California more often now that we are just a short trip away living in Las Vegas. I have lived in LA  in the past and really know my way around, it feels like a second home to me. We spent quite a bit of time in Malibu on this trip, so for this post I’m going to share my go to spots in that area.

On my very first trip to LA, I remember driving down Highway 1 and the second I laid eyes on Malibu I was in heaven! I’m a huge lover of the beach and it was just so peaceful and beautiful there. I always tell people unless you have seen it in person, pictures and videos just don’t do it justice. When Mo was planning our engagement four years ago, he knew how much I loved Malibu that he actually proposed to me on the beach there and surprised me with having my family show up at one of my favorite restaurants (read about it here). Needless to say Malibu holds a really special place in my heart!

Restaurants

  • Moonshadows: Hands down my favorite restaurant! They have some of the best seafood and most gorgeous views. The back patio is so chic and has such an amazing ambiance. You can eat your dinner or have a drink and watch the waves roll in right below you. This is where Mo took me to celebrate our engagement and when we walked in there sat my family; so many special memories here!
  • Taverna Tony: The cutest little Greek restaurant with the most delicious food. You definitely get your bang for your buck here. They have belly dancers that give you the real Mediterranean experience, feel free to get up and join right in on the fun!
  •  Gladstones: This was the first restaurant I ever ate at in Malibu. Again it is right on the water and has breathtaking views. They are also known for their seafood, ‘Gladstones Clambake’ is pretty much a seafood lovers dream. It’s a huge steaming pot of lobster, crab legs, clams, mussels, prawns and sausage, delish! Also, a must have is the Dragonberry Mojito, you seriously can’t go wrong!

Things To Do

  • Paradise Cove: If you love hanging at the beach as much as I do, then this is your spot! You can come to paradise cove and rent a day bed on the beach, basically a two person lounge chair with a big cushion and chill all day. There is a restaurant and bar where you can grab something to eat and drink while you lounge on your luxurious day bed, doesn’t get much more relaxing.
  • Malibu Family Wines: One thing I didn’t realize at first was how many wineries there actually are in Malibu. One of my last trips we visited this winery, it was so beautiful and had some gorgeous views. They also have a safari where you can go meet some of the cutest giraffes, lamas etc (retired hollywood animal celebs!)
  • Malibu Country Mart: This is the same plaza that Taverna Tony is located and has a bunch of really great shops like Planet Blue and Vince, just to name a few. There are also other restaurants and little shops there. It’s a great little area to walk around, shop and grab a bite to eat.

Places to Stay

  • Malibu Beach Inn: This hotel is pretty much amazing, sitting right on the Pacific Ocean. It’s a smaller hotel with only 47 rooms, giving you a more intimate luxurious feel. If your’e looking for a beach getaway, you most definitely want to stay in this beach side oasis.

My Fave Contour and Highlight Products

When contour and highlighting came about, everyone and their mother was rushing to the nearest makeup stores to grab these magical products that could create such an illusion. Who wouldn’t want a slimmer nose and more sculpted cheek bones without going under the knife?! It is really such an amazing concept and can be done with so many different products. I have tried both the powder and cream products and really like both. Of course if you have more oily skin I’d recommend powders, and if you’re drier more of a cream base; I have mixed and used a cream and a powder too. Below are my favorite products to contour and highlight with at the moment!

All Black + Lace Up Booties

SONY DSC

SONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCTop: Lulu’s, Denim: Frame via Nordstrom, Booties: Jeffrey Campbell via Nordstrom, Handbag: YSL, Sunglasses: Quay via Nordstrom, Bracelet: Boho Betty

There I go wearing black again! I don’t know why, but I have always gravitated toward black when I’m buying clothes. The choker trend is something that I said I have been wearing a lot lately and when I saw this top on Lulu’s I knew I needed it. It is really great quality and I love how it gives you the choker look without actually having to wear one. I can tell that I will be wearing this top often, it is so soft! It also comes in grey, I may just have to order that one as well 😉

I recently got these Jeffrey Campbell booties and I think I love them even more than I thought I was going to. The heel is thick and not super high, which makes them really comfortable and super easy to walk in. And can we just talk about this lace up detail? In love!

My sunglasses are Quay Australia and have quickly become one of my favorite sunglasses designers.  A huge plus that they are really affordable, most are in the $50 range. This line has gotten a lot of recognition lately and it seems to be hard to get your hands on certain styles before they’re sold out again. This particular pair is called ‘Needing Fame’ and is an aviator style.

My bracelet is from Boho Betty, a jewelry company I recently discovered. I did a blog post about them on Monday, you can find it here. They have some really cool pieces and if you go to their website and use code ‘diariesofdanielle’ you get 20% off your order!

I hope everybody has a great Wednesday! I can’t wait to watch the season finale of The Hollywood Medium tonight, does anybody else find Tyler Henry so intriguing?! I seriously can’t get enough!
